Appointment type Permanent Work schedule Full-Time Duties SummaryThe Robert J. Dole VAMC is seeking to fill 1 full-time board certified or board eligible Psychiatrist to support Consult Liaison operations. Responsibilities The Robert J Dole (Wichita) VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time board certified or board eligible Psychiatrist. The incumbent will carry an appropriate clinical workload, take part in continuing medical education (as defined by licensure), and will be involved with quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:Clinical: The incumbent will work primarily in a Consult liaison answering Psychiatric Consults in the Emergency Department and on the medical floor, completing patient evaluations and treatment, which requires completing consultations/intakes/med checks in a timely manner, and close collaboration with colleagues and treatment teams in the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, VHA System, and other medical facilities, as needed, for the Veteran's care, including Crisis intervention, Judicial commitment, Emergency Psychiatry, and Community Outreach. Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, general medical conditions that relate to psychiatric conditions, and training in at least one modality of psychotherapy is required. Ordering of labs and x-rays as related to treatment of psychiatric conditions and general conditions that may impact psychiatric treatment is required. Ability to formulate treatment plans and work closely with other treatment members is required. General diagnosis, preliminary treatment and referral of substance abuse is expected. After hours on call that may require returning to the hospital is shared with other providers. Inpatient medicine consultation, emergency room evaluations and follow-up will occasionally be required.Working knowledge of computers and moderate typing skills required for electronic medical record entry.Teaching: Provide guidance to rotating Residents and Medical Students on rotation from University of Kansas, School of Medicine. Skills needed would be to lead, give direction, provide knowledge, skills and abilities in the Psychiatry field.Administrative: Completes encounters/examinations in a timely manner. Basic Requirements:United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.Proficiency in spoken and written English.Physical requirements outlined below.Preferred Experience: Board certification strongly preferred.Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of a Psychiatrist under normal and emergent conditions. Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices); heavy carrying (15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hear (aid permitted).
